Frederick Pilot Middle School toured Dorchester’s Grove Hall, Upham’s Corner, and Fields Corner neighborhoods. We set out to learn the answer by partnering with the Boston Public Schools. But what landmarks and businesses define our neighborhoods through the eyes of the next generation? ![]() I’m not sure if this practice is strictly followed at all their locations but I must say we didn’t think their broth tasted like it was of a different kind than others.Stories about our neighborhoods are often told by adults for adults. The main website, by the way, notes that they specialize in a healthier version of pho made not with bones with fatty marrow but entirely as a meat broth. As a spicy noodle soup, however, it was quite good and, as in the pho, the meats (brisket and other beef) were done well. In fact, it tasted like their regular pho broth had just been spiked with a lot of chilli oil. I liked it because it tasted good but I was disappointed because it didn’t really seem like bun bo hue-there was no trace of the lemongrass that I could detect and it was altogether less earthy than the bun bo hue I enjoyed at Pho 79. I gave it a go and both liked it and was a little disappointed. I asked our server if this was the bun bo hue and her response was that it was the bun bo hue broth with pho meat. I was again looking for bun bo hue and the closest I could see to it on the menu was something listed as “Hot and Spicy Lemongrass Noodle Soup”. This was very good-the broth was better than at Pho 79 and the quality of the meat was superior, in particular the tendon. The missus got the pho with steak, flank, tripe and tendon. We started with two orders of rolls, one with shrimp and pork (served with a peanut sauce) and the other with minced pork with pork skin (served with a sweet and sour dipping sauce). At Pho Hoa the focus is very much on pho and bun and rice bowls and such. ![]() This may, of course, have something to do with Pho 79’s conjoined existence with Caravelle and its American Chinese menu and lunch buffet. It was less busy than Pho 79 had been when we ate there. The dining room has two sections with slightly different decor-one side is a bit glitzier than the other. It’s also a larger, brighter and less cramped space than Pho 79. That in itself would not be a reason to eat there if the food was not good but I’m happy to report that our one lunch there was quite good. Also unlike Pho 79, it is in a large strip mall’ish complex and as such has ample parking in front-which makes it far less of a pain to get to than Pho 79. to Canada, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines and Taiwan. Then, snaps are added to secure the buckle and loop. Next, we cut and sand the edges and then punch holes, after which we stitch and use Italian paint on the edges. Then, we glue it together with the exotic skin strap. We begin by stamping the lining with the Bronco logo, sizing, etc. Then, we glue the ends of the skived straps and hammer it down. In the process of splicing, we skive (shave) the ends of the straps with a sharp rounded knife, so that no lumps are visible. For Crocodilian and Lizard skins, we start by cutting the straps, and then splicing them. The splicing is done so nicely, that it is hardly noticeable. For Crocodilian skins there is no other way around it, if you use larger skins then the belt will be very thick, stiff, and it will have a tendency to crack at some point in the future. Some exotic hides such as Crocodilian or Lizard must be spliced due to the small skins, as is standard in the belt industry. The making of a Bronco belt is a handmade process, requiring attention to detail and excellent craftsmanship. Bronco signature handmade belts are proudly produced in the great state of Texas. Our belts will age gracefully, acquiring a burnished look over time and our prices are more economical than most of our competitors for the quality we offer. Some of the individuals are well experienced and have been producing belts for 20-25 years.īy the end, every single Bronco belt has gone through intensive inspections to ensure superior quality, setting our belts apart from other brands on the market. During this process of meticulous craftsmanship, only the utmost quality is ensured down to the smallest detail. We handpick superior skins which undergo many steps before the final product is achieved, including: bonding the lining, cutting, sanding, painting and stitching the edges. The making of Bronco belts entails a unique and intensive process. If you are in the market for a top notch quality belt for a better price, then look no further than Bronco handmade belts. Why should one consider buying Bronco handmade belts? ![]() ![]() Some of them are not even real files at all (the recovery software merely dumped the clusters that were pointed to by now-overwritten directory entries), while others are broken because of fragmentation. I’ve used several different file/photo-recovery programs, but naturally, they are limited in how much they can recover (though fortunately the volume has 8KB clusters, which helps somewhat).Īnyway, some of the larger files, that were fragmented, are now corrupt. Certainly check out both Path Finder and TotalFinder and see which is most to your liking.Does anyone know of a way to check graphics files (particularly JPEG, GIF, and PNG) for corruption (preferably in an automated way)?Ī few days ago, a command worked incorrectly and ended up deleting thousands of graphics files from a FAT32 volume that was practically out of space. So the final decision on which Finder alternative is best for you will depend on what level of new features you require. It’s even starting to look much closer on parr with D.O. In fact, at first glance, I’d say it’s a lot smoother than Directory Opus (but then most Mac apps are smoother looking that Windows equivalents, in my opinion). Especially for those looking for a Mac equivalent of Directory Opus. Pathfinder 6 looks is looking pretty attractive for those wanting a feature rich Finder alternative. It’s not as polished, in terms its preference interface, yet it does a great job at boosting Finder to new levels. In terms of functionality it’s very similar to TotalFinder. Since late 2013 I’ve discovered XtraFinder. However, if all you’re hanging out for is Tabs and Cut & Paste in Finder, then TotalFinder is the best solution I am aware of. If you need all the other features Path Finder brings to your Mac then I’d suggest running with that. In fact when I use other people’s Macs it feels like Finder is crippled. The bottom line is this: I can’t imagine using Finder without TotalFinder giving it a feature boost. Tabs and Cut & Paste are the main things I use every day. I decided I could do without the rest of what Path Finder offered. But it gives me the main things I was using Path Finder for. Okay, so this is not a big addition of features. Cut & Paste – Use keyboard shortcuts to move files around.Visor – Convenient system-wide Finder always one key-press away.Show System Files – Show me all files on the disk.Folders should always go first in list view. Dual Mode – Display two Finder windows side-by-side in dual mode.Along with Cut and Paste, tabs in Finder is something I simply can’t understand Apple overlooking. I want cut and paste, and I’ll decide whether or not its safe to implement such a file manoeuvre. I know Apple has user file safety reasons in mind, but to me this is (loosely) like the TSA enforcing ridiculous unproven backscatter scans for passenger safety reasons. Perhaps one of the things I missed most from my Windows days was the ability to Cut and Paste files and folders. Under half of what Path Finder is asking. ![]() ![]() The current price on this smooth piece of OS gear is $18. What’s more, it seemed a tad harsh to have to dish out $40 for something that in essence was providing the features I felt Apple Finder should come with by default. My only complaint about Path Finder is that it seemed a bit bloated to have running at times when I didn’t really need all the power it afforded me. I’ve not tried the latest version (v6) because the upgrade price was more than the price of what I have now replaced Path Finder with. It was as good as I was going to get trying to replace Directory Opus on my new Mac, so I ran with it for a few years. The best one I could find was Path Finder. It seemed more deficient in features than Windows Explorer. When I moved to Mac OS X I realised in less than 5 minutes on Finder that I’d need an alternative. So much OS and file bending power coursing under my finder tips and mouse clicks. It was (and, I guess, still is) fantastic. Back in the days of Windows being the operating system on my computer, I was unsatisfied with the limited capabilities of Windows Explorer. ![]() ![]() Saturday: Ene Nash Fork Campgroun, CO 13.5 inches at 7 p.m. Our snow totals atlas has a list of cities in the United States to help you find the recent snowfall of any location in the country. It’s gorgeous!įabio Testi in the lead role is sublime and he’ll be well known to fans of Italian cinema with roles in such films as Enzo G. Of course if you’re a Fulci fanatic you’ll be well versed in Lucio’s gore filled approach, but what struck me with Contraband is that even 34 years later just how raw some of the brutality is. From a woman’s face being slowly burned off with a lighter as the camera fixes upon her, to double-barrelled shotgun blowing stomachs to smithereens – it really descends into carnage of the bloodiest order. As Contraband whips along we’re treated to levels of violence and gore that you may well find shocking and lurid. The first third of Fulci’s movie may well lull you into a false sense of security that this is just a pedestrian crime movie – it really isn’t. However, during one delivery the police intercept the drop off which leads Luca and Mickey to suspect that one of the rival families may have given the police a tip off and Mafioso orientated carnage ensues. Luca (Testi) has recently moved to Naples with his wife (Monti) and his son to help his brother Mickey (Farnese) in his Mafia orientated work smuggling cigarettes into the port. With a documentary on the way entitled Eurocrime!: The Italian Cop and Gangster Films That Ruled the 70s, then hopefully that will soon be rectified.Ĭontraband follows the well-worn template of many of the Poliziotteschi movies. It’s a superb genre, and one which demands more attention from cult film lovers. The feted directors of the genre were undoubtedly Fernando Di Leo who made my favourite Poliziotteschi film – Milano Calibro 9 (1972) which is soon to take its first bow in the UK thanks to Arrow Video, and also people like Damiano Damiani and the great Umberto Lenzi. The Poliziotteschi genre (crime-thriller) ran almost concurrently with the Giallo genre, emerging in the late 60s and eventually fizzling out during the early 80s with Contraband being one of the last. The more Fulci I got though, the more I delved into his career and discovered that he had the ability to cross genres, for example the excellent Spaghetti Western – Four of the Apocalypse (1975), and Contraband which fell under the Poliziotteschi banner. ![]() As far as I was concerned though he easily matched Argento and I was soon sinking my teeth into classics such as The Beyond (1981), The House by the Cemetery (1981) and The New York Ripper (1981). He himself felt his work was always in the shadow of someone like Dario Argento, a man who Fulci occasionally aimed the odd side-swipe at. Fulci was an Italian master who never really quite received the acclaim that here deserved during his life. ![]() |
